Journey from a student to Director of same institute (RECK/NITK) |
|
Today, like the rest of my classmates of 1965-70 batch have been trying best to cope with the rigors of 1st year at college. Fresh out of school, the challenges of living away from home are many but we were sure that all of us are doing well in life at this stage. But given a chance, I think some of us would like to re live our college days and I happen to be one of those.
Still I wish I could go back to college, especially the last 2 years — the time I spent at RECK. When I joined RECK in 1st year it was a new experience, a whole new world. I had left most of my friends back at the hometown and other places for higher studies. So there I was in a new college with new teachers, none of whom knew me, and friendless. Surprisingly, all these changed in a matter of days; RECK does it to you. Before I knew it, students from different states emerged accepting each other for what they were.
So life went on. But at that time during those first three years we never realized that time was passing and fast. We moved from 1st to 3rd year and were the senior most class in college and the university examinations never seemed to affect us. I think this was largely due to the faculty. Everything was done with a smile and done well. My teachers have taught me more than the course; they have taught me about life. This has helped me a lot to make my decisions in life. RECK has a wonderful system wherein a student can walk up to the Principal and any member of the staff with any grievance and all grievances are compassionately dealt with. This does a lot to one’s confidence; it has given my confidence a boost.
RECK gave me my best friends. During 4th and 5th year we lived life to the fullest. We have attended classes, bunked classes, fought with each other and made up, spent hours at the canteen doing nothing better than whiling away time without a care. But life was not really meaningless or wasted. There was always a lot to do. RECK gave us ample scope to demonstrate our talents. This has helped me decide what to do in life, career wise, and I am sure RECK has helped all RECKers, past and present NITKians, in the same manner. And so, the days passed and before we knew it, it was time to move on —away from the warmth and security of RECK. With the blessings of God and my worthy teachers I rose to the position of a Professor and to the Director, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra.
Whether this class meets as a class again or not is beyond our control. But come what may, the days spent at RECK shall always remain in memory. RECK shall remain RECK for me, a wonderful institute, a place dear to my heart, an institution beyond compare. For it was here that I had the best days of my life. Thank you RECK, for everything. |
